Eight scenes divided by jeweled columns, lintels & arches; lower L scene: Ahasuerus handing his signet ring to an elderly man to give to the kneeling Esther; scenes in 2 L upper compartments: lady standing before counter of draper's or upholster's shop & touching bolt of fabric, 2 men; upper center scene: bareheaded boy kneeling before hooded man; lower center scene: man holding scepter with dog at his feet & with other figures; lower R scene: throned elderly emperor (probably Charlemagne) next to crowned woman with young woman kneeling before them; 1st upper R scene: 4 young women wearing hoods surrounding seated young woman; 2nd upper R scene: emperor watches as man applies chisel to small sculpture (BRD) garland with fruit & flowers inhabited by birds The upper & lower borders have been replaced. The panel seen in the photographs may have been made up from 3 separate pieces. The panel seen in the photographs was joined to 2 or 3 other panels after it was acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1941 because it was thought that those panels had been made to be joined together.
