Deponent could not understand howwith the brakes applied and the drag of the car in addition, the train shouldhave proceed so far without being brought to a stop. The place where the horsewas first struck was about half a mile from the Bridge over the We Hand Canalat Thorold. The orders and rules of the Company at that time prescribed thatthe Canal Bridge should be approached with great caution, and that the trainshould be made to run slow before reaching it.
