Trier, Germany, Birthplace of Karl Marx, the town square has'nt changed. It is the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BC. It is the oldest bishopric north of the Alps, the Bishop was also one of the seven electors of the Holy Roman Empire. Every summer Trier hosts Germany's biggest Roman festival, Brot und Spiele ( Bread and Games). Trier holds a lavish festival every year called the Trier Christmas Market near the Cathedral of Trier. The last one was held from 26 November to 22 December 2008.
