LAMON was born in Frederick County,about two miles north of Winchester, in the state ofVirginia, on the 6th day of January, 1828. Two years afterhis birth his parents moved to Berkeley County in what isnow West Virginia, near a little town called Bunker Hill,where he received a common school education. At the ageof seventeen he began the study of medicine which he soonabandoned for law. When nineteen years of age he wentto Illinois and settled in Danville; afterwards attendinglectures at the Louisville (Ky.) Law School. Was admittedto the Bar of Kentucky in March, 1850, and in January, 1851,he was admitted to the Illinois Bar, which comprised Abra-ham Li
