An Italian long rapier, circa 1620. Slender, thrusting blade of flattened hexagonal section, grooved on both sides of its base and stamped with the inscription, "Antonio Picinino". High quality, ridged knucklebow hilt with double guard plates. The outer pair of guard plates has very fine, small open work perforations, the interior plates are shell shaped. Original grip cover with iron wire winding and braided ferrules. Oval pommel, grooved in the centre.
