Female, yellowish-buff, streaked, spotted and banded, more prominently above,with dusky. Northern hemisphere; in N. A. breeds fromTexas to Alaska; nests, placed on the ground, eggs, 6to 10,greenish. Migrates south in Sep. and Oct. to winter in con-siderable numbers from the Carolinas through the Gulf north in April; uncommon on the Atlantic coast northof the Carolinas.
