Mouquet Farm The Somme Picardy France
Mouquet Farm was a German stongpoint during the Battle of The Somme in 1916, and it took numerous attempts by allied forces (most notably the Australians, who suffered massive loss here) before it was taken. The original farm was to the left of the one visible in the picture, but was obliterated in the fighting. Many men simply vanished in the conflict, and lay there to this day. The original farm was to the left of the track, as opposed to the modern-day buildings which are today to the right.
