Mr. Sopwith seconded the motion. The President said, he thought the coalowners had neglected thought the Institute was deserving of far more patronage than ithad obtained. The collieries with which he was connected subscribed£30 out of £63 subscribed by all the trade.

Mr. Sopwith said, a great deal might be done, and he would speakto parties himself. He did not believe that any provincial institution inthe kingdom had produced such volumes of proceedings as that Institu-tion had done. The motion was carried by a show of hands.
