Salinas Grandes in the High Puna, Province of Jujuy, Argentina, South America

Salinas Grandes is a large salt flat of more than 200 square km located in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy in the northwest Argentina. This high altitude (almost 3500 meters) puna field was formed more than 5 millions years ago when salty lakes evaporated.
