Located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. On high ground promontory above ravine of the River Nethan, a tributary of the River Clyde. The castle built around 1530 has many well preserved architectural design features, including castle keep with round bartizans at each corner, residential tower and artillery defenses. Criagnethan’s caponier, a stone-vaulted shooting gallery, is a unique and rare feature in British castles.
