A fine piece of decorated cut-glass was thebest among the finds of small objects picked up on thatevenings wanderings. Even its hard smooth surfaceshowed grinding by the corrosive force of driving sand. Camp was pitched some three miles to the east, wherea belt of flourishing Toghraks, tamarisks and desert scrubmarked the line of an ancient river bed traced on my firstvisit to Rawak. There was a gorgeous sunset, and afterthe heat of the day the distant vista of the great snowyrange southwards was doubly refreshing.
