Other panels extend to the top of the shaft,and on these are engraved the names of the Mayflower pas-sengers. Pilgrim Hall was built in 1824 by the Pilgrim 1880, J. Henry Stickney, of Baltimore, a liberal and pat-riotic friend, expended a large sum in enlarging andimproving the buildiug and grounds. A day spent herewould be too short a time to satisfy lovers of the antiqueand historical in studying the relics contained in PLYMOUTH ROCK CANOPY. The walls of the large hall are hung with rare and inter-esting pictures, many of which are portraits of the earlysettlers. Cases around the room contain articles once belongingto Bradford, Standish, Winslow, Brewster, Alden andothers. Chairs owned by Carver and Brewster, the cradles ofPeregrine White and Samuel Fuller, and a model of theMayflower, are among the objects of interest here pre-served. Enclosed in an iron railing near the building, is a tabletbearing a copy of the Immortal Compact, and on the PLYMOUTH. 429 fence surrounding it is inscribed the names of the forty-onesigners. Plymouth, or Forefathers Rock is the point towardwhich the tourist turns with the greatest eagerness. Herebeneath a granite canopy is the identical rock upon whichthe Pilgrim feet first touche
