High Cup Nick from near Narrowgate Beacon


Looking down on High Cup Nick from near The Narrowgate Beacon. This spectacular geological feature is a result of glaciation which produced a typical U-shaped valley whose rim is a circle of cliffs known as The Whin Sill. The Whin Sill formed nearly 300 Million years ago is made of Blue Dolerite a hard igneous rock known locally as Whinstone. The feature is actually High Cup, High Cup Nick is where the beck enters at the top left
