Bardsey Abbey tower with low cloud on Bardsey Mountain, Hendy & Nant farmhouses to L, their stockyards to R. St Mary's abbey founded by AD1200 on the traditional site of a C6th Celtic monastery associated with SS Cadfan, Dyfrig & Deiniol. Important place of Christian pilgrimage; legend of 20,000 saints buried on Bardsey Island. Two of the 'model farms' built on Bardsey Island 1870-75 by Lord Newborough. Artist & writer Brenda Chamberlain lived on Bardsey 1947-61, mainly in Carreg farmhouse; she described her experiences in the book Tide-race published in 1962.
