An antique postcard depicting a night-time, moonlit scene of the Imperial Institute in London, England. Following The Colonial and Indian exhibition of 1886 a decision was made to form a permanent Empire museum or exhibition in London, called The Imperial Institute. Its purpose was to encourage trade and links within the British Empire. The building was designed by T. E. Colcutt and the foundation stone was laid by Queen Victoria in July 1887. The official opening by the Queen took place in May 1893.
