Around 2,500 robots are working alongside staff at the Kegworth fulfilment centre in Leicestershire to pick hundreds of thousands of products for customers. The 450,000 square foot building, which is the size of FIVE football pitches, is made up of three huge floors – two of which are robotics floors. There are also around 1,000 full-time members of staff, as well as an additional 600 seasonal members, all working to keep the Amazon operation running at its busiest time of year. The site is one of eight in the UK that has Amazon Robotics technology to speed up the picking process. There are thousands of robot drives in operation in the building, with each one weighing 130kg and able to lift 600kg. Amazon launched a number of early Black Friday deals at the start of November and this Friday (Nov 26) it will be offering even more discounts on thousands of must-have products. There will be thousands of “Deals of the Day” and “Lightning Deals” on offer with products available at a discount, in limited quantities, for a short period of time. Workers at the Peterborough fulfilment centre in Cambridgeshire were also seen picking and packing as millions of Brits rush to save money in the run up to Christmas. Deals are available on everything from the latest consumer electronics and Amazon devices, to trending toys and beauty, food and drink, fashion and home. There are also a wide selection of items on offer from handcrafted gifts to innovative new products from small businesses and artisans from Amazon Marketplace and Amazon Launchpad. Black Friday, which falls on Friday, November 26, has become a highly-anticipated date in the UK shopping calendar. It was introduced to the UK by Amazon in 2010.
