It is a government controlled cooperative in contrast to the Aarey Dairy which is a completely government run venture. Mahanand Dairy consists of three plants together which together produce 54000 litres of pasteurised milk per hour. The main product is packet milk but flavoured milks made from sterilised milks are also produced here . The milk is collected from cooperative societies in Maharashtra's rural areas . The dairy receives 80% cows milk the remainder is from buffalo this has a higher fat content and as a result is priced higher inspite of the fact that it is healthier and more nutritious.
