Environmental devastation around Queenstown, Tasmania.

A view of the landscape around the mining town of Queenstown, Tasmania, stripped and eroded by over 100 years of mining activity. These once-heavily forested hills were stripped bare in the 1890s 1900s to provide wood for smelting furnaces. The landscape still bears the scars. An environmental disaster area. A solitary human figure on the road gives a sense of scale.
