The lower portion of the avenue is given to sub-stantial residences of the old families ofNew York, At the corner of 8th Street isthe Free German Library and the northeast corner of 10th Street isthe Baptist Tabernacle, St. Marks Churchon the corner of Stuy-vesant Place, is a quaintold structure erected in1794.
