Jurassic pterosaur fossil. This is a specimen of Pterodactylus, a prehistoric flying reptile. This animal was a carnivore that hunted animals including small fish. The membranous wings were formed of skin and muscles stretched between the body and the fourth finger of the hand. It has been very well studied, but the taxonomy is still uncertain. This specimen is from the Jurassic Solnhofen Lithographic Limestone found in Bavaria, Germany. The Jurassic lasted from 201 million years ago to 145 million years ago.
