The National Physical La-boratory of Great Britain and latterlythe Bureau of Standards of the UnitedStates have investigated the subject ofthread gauges extensively, and as a re-sult of their researches apparatus andmethods have beendeveloped for testingwith a high degree ofaccuracy. As might be expect-ed, manufacturers ofthread gauges haveavailed themselves ofthe facilities affordedthem and have senttheir gauges to theBureau of Standardsfor testing, but it hasonly been recentlythat the equipmentnecessary has beenmade available forprivate use.
