Suðurland was built at Helsingör Jernskibs & Maskinbyggeri in Helsingör Denmark the year 1891 for A/S. Östbornholmske Dampskibsselskab in Nexö at Bornholm. The ships name was M. Davidsen. 287 gross load, 350 2 compression steam engine. The story of this ship is covered with constant misfortune. It stranded 24, May 1901 around the Hammer at the north peak of Bornholm. It went aside at the Helsingör shipyard but in the end the managed to rebuild it. It was sold to Iceland on the 22nd of January 1920 to Eimskipafélag Suðurlands h/f in Reykjavík and was named Suðurland. It was sold again to Skallagrímur h/f in Borgarnes but was judged ruined and was therefore towed to Reykjafjord the year 1935 and placed at the beach of Djúpavík. It was used as digs for the staff who worked at the herring factory in the years of 1934 - 35
