In domestic shrines, such as the one depicted here, family priests attend to Sri Nathji all day, bathing and dressing the icon, and making offerings of the god's favorite food and playthings. Since the 1870s, artists began to paint portraits in a photographic style, as we see in the image of the priest on the right, in order to compete with photographers dominating the portraiture market.
