Sand dune habitat with seasonal flooded slack in winter


The sand dunes of the Sefton Coast form part of the largest sand dune and intertidal habitat in England and is designated as SSSI, SPA and SAC. The image of the Ainsdale and Birkdale Local Nature Reserve shows a flooded slack and Natterjack Toad breeding habitat. The dunes shown in the image hold nearly 40% of slack habitat in England and 40% of the Natterjack Toad population.
