Pleasure sight seeing boat and large multi purpose offshore vessel negotiate Aberdeen's busy port. SCO 9065.

Aberdeen Harbour is one of the UK's busiest ports and represents a vital part of Scotland's transport infrastructure. It plays a key role in Europe's energy sector, supports life-line ferry services to the Northern Isles and has commercial trading links to 39 countries. With over 5 million tonnes of cargo passing over the quayside annually, with a value of more than £ billion, and the port managing over 28 million vessel tonnes, the port has witnessed record levels of activity in recent years and is key to sustaining the commercial growth of the region. Harbour Facilities The modernity of the facilities and diversity of traffic are key features of the harbour, which is both a regional resource and a global gateway, serving a wide range of Scottish Industries:There has, in recent years, been a growing demand for increased capacity within Aberdeen Harbour, both in terms of activity volume, but also in the need to accommodate increasingly large vessels. Since 2012 Aberdeen Harbour has been investigating ways in which it can expand in order to meet these customer needs. The result of these investigations to date is that a site at Nigg Bay has emerged as The Board’s preferred option for growth. The plan would be to construct a modern, state-of-the-art harbour facility within the bay, which would then meet the demands of the 21st century and beyond.
