If rnore current is required than the area of the externalelectrode will handle with comfort, place a similar pad under TREATMENT OF MENSTRUAL DERANGEMENTS. 295 the sacrum and connect both the external electrodes to thenegative pole by a bifurcated cord. The electrode must be held motionless during the applicationso that continuous contact between the metallic or carbon sur-face and the tissues is maintained until the bleeding vesselsare thoroughly cauterized. After the bleeding is apparently controlled the case shouldbe treated once a week with a milder current until normalconditions are established. This method involves only the cauterizing action of
