Tesla wireless coil experiment. Electrical streamers sparking outwards from a coil at a laboratory operated by Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). This is a resonant wireless transmitting circuit, with a secondary flat spiral coil connected to an antenna. The coil named after Tesla is a type of resonant transformer that is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency alternating current electricity. Here, the discharges are metres long with a voltage of 4 million volts. Tesla's research led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. The SI unit of magnetic flux density is named in his honour.
