The buildings are in a mediterranean style and a red ‘United’ bus is stopped outside. Previously a boating lake, it was remodelled in 1938, with accommodation for swimmers, sunbathers and seating for spectators. The swimming pool was 230 feet long and 60 feet wide. It was filled with sea water that had been filtered, chlorinated and heated. The North Bay Bathing Pool later became Waterscene, which boasting the longest water chute in the world in 1984. Subsequent re-developments (Water Splash World, and then Atlantis) modernised the pool and the new slides and themed areas were a success for a time in attracting holidaymakers. It closed in 2007 and was demolished to make way for apartments. This image is from an old amateur 35mm colour transparency. It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1950s/60s photograph.
