Early Abbots.—The next ecclesiastic of Dromiskin we hearof is Donnchadh Crunmhael, abbot of Clonard, who is said tobe of Druim Inesglainn, and who died in the 23rd year[of his abbacy], according to in 788, rede 793. In 827 (Annals Ulster) recte 828, occurred the death, veryremarkably, of the abbots of three neighbouring monasteriesin Louth—Robhartach, son of Cathasach, abbot of CluainMor Arda (Clonmore) ; Muirchu, abbot ( princeps) ofDruim inisclaind, and Clemens, abbot of Linn Duachaill. Apestilence may very likely have raged at the time. The Danes seem to have begun their depredations in thedistrict soon after.
