This ovipositor usually has a little enlargement,somewhat resembling a spear-head, just before the tip, whichfacilitates placing the ^%^. Here the sound is produced by the ridgededge of one wing-cover scraping over the ridged veins of theother, setting into vibration the membraneous spaces in bothwings.
