"La Grande Hermine" (The Big Weasel) is a derelict 140 foot ship a favorite roadside attraction and curiosity in Jordan Harbour
"La Grande Hermine" (The Big Weasel) is a 140 foot ship created as a replica of the largest of the 3 ships French Explorer Jacques Cartier sailed up the St. Lawrence River. The derelict was built in 1914 and served as a ferry, cargo ship and floating restaraunt before being transformed into a ship was towed to its final resting place Jordan station just off the western shore of Lake Ontario, between the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines in the hopes of becoming a floating gambling casino in Niagara falls. However, its owner died before the necessary permits were issued and the derelict ship has been a well-known landmark and roadside attraction in Jordan Harbour ever since.
