In spraying for the orange thrips only those insects actually hit with the spray will be killed. As this insect obtains its food by sucking the plant juices, stomach poisons are of no avail. In order to spray with greatest efficiency it is necessary to use a gasoline power sprayer, maintaining a pressure of 180 to 200 pounds. (See fig. 2, showing a power outfit in operation.) Angles or elbows should be used on all spray rods so that " ; and " undershot'' spraying can be done; that is, spraying from above downward, and from below up-.
