Jantar Mantar. Astronomical instruments (yantras) at the Jantar Mantar observatory, Jaipur, India. These platforms were constructed in alignment with a particular planet or constellation. Steps lead up to a viewing platform where the movements of celestial bodies were observed and tracked. The observatory was constructed between 1727 and 1734 by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It is one of five constructed by him in west central India and is one of the best preserved, having been restored in 1901.
