A statement by the organisers read as follows…Over the past few months, we've witnessed violent scenes of anarchy in the USA where militant left wing groups have attacked and defaced Confederate statues in the hope of eradicating America's proud past. From Baltimore to New Orleans, Democrat party Mayors and Councilors have torn down memorials to the Confederacy igniting protests across the eastern seaboard of the USA. More recently, the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia was held to protest the planned removal of a Confederate General Robert Lee statue. The southern nationalist organisers of the ‘Unite the Right’ rally had Police approval to hold the demonstration however violence erupted when Antifa, Black Lives Matter and Democrat supporters attacked alt-right and nationalist protestors. Last Saturday morning, under the cover of darkness, a cowardly left wing vandal defaced the Captain Cook and Lachlan Macquarie statues in Hyde Park with a spray can writing ‘Change the Date’ and ‘No pride in genocide’. The Queen Elizabeth statue in Hyde Park was also defaced with graffiti written, ‘Fucking bow down’. The same left wing coward vandalized ANZAC war memorial and Archibald Memorial Fountain scrawling filthy messages on them.
