Punakha Dzong from across the river, Bhutan.


Punakha Dzong is considered by many to be the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan. It is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Father) River and the Mo Chhu (Mother) River. Building was commenced in 1637 and the building has suffered from many fires, an earthquake and flooding. Until 1955 it also formed the seat of the government which then moved to Thimphu. The monk body spend the winter months here and then relocate to Thimpu for the summer.
