Dunlichity Church in Strath Nairn is a particularly ancient site thought to be one of the locations used by St Finian to preach in the around 575 AD, which in turn suggests that it was a pre-Christian site too (perhaps the presence of a large yew tree in the cemetary re-enforces this the presence of a cupmarked stone suggests that this area has long been used for something!) During the run up to Culloden a group of Jacobite fighters overnighted here and used some of the stones in the walls to sharpen their weapons, the grooves are still visible in the walls today. It really is quite a storied place and set amongst some absolutely stunning landscape which I am planning to explore further soon!
