View W of Alfold Church, Surrey, England, UK, with Church Cottage to the R & the preserved C18th village stocks to the L of Rosemary Lane. The church & some of the surrounding tile-hung cottages are Grade 1 Listed Buildings. The Norman church (nave & chancel) was built around 1100, the S aisle added 1190, the N aisle c 1290 but rebuilt in the 1845 restoration. The W bell tower with broach spire dates from around 1500, it is supported by a bell cage, huge oak timbers in the W bay of the nave arcade. The tower & spire are clad with wooden shingles.
