A Persian/Armenian shamshir, dated 1781. Heavy single-edged wootz-Damascus blade (slightly pitted and somewhat notched along the edge). The obverse side is inlaid with gold and silver stars, Armenian lettering, and an owl beneath a crescent moon with the dated hexagram 1195 (= 1781). Wootz-Damascus quillons with remnants of gold inlay. Iron grip frame and pommel cap. Horn grip scales, partially replaced on one side. Wooden scabbard with a wire-sewn, leather cover.
