Washington, DC, 22 June 2022 Five students from Lexington (MA) High School, the third-place winners in the 2022 NOSB competition, toured the Naval Observatory (USNO) as a part of their visit to Washington to accept their awards. The visit was sponsored by RADM (Ret) Jonathan White (at left), former Superintendent, USNO, Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, and Oceanographer/Navigator of the Navy and supported by Mr. Warren Walls, Acting Scientific Director, USNO (standing on lower step) and CDR Kelly Taylor, USN, Deputy Superintendent, USNO. The students toured the USNO Library where they held rare books by Copernicus and Galileo, visited the 26-inch "Great Equatorial" telescope originally installed in 1873, viewed tha Master Clock facility, and talked with scientists developing the next-generation optical frequency clocks in one of USNO's research laboratories.
