The Wales Coastal Path in North Wales. Traeth Lafan Nature Reserve on the Wales Coast Path between Llanfairfechan and Bangor. Traeth Lafan Nature Reserve extends for approximately kilometres between the city of Bangor and the Welsh town of Llanfairfechan. Designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Special Protection Area, and Special Area of Conservation the reserve is approximately 2500 hectares of intertidal sand and mud flats, much of which is exposed at low tide. Penmaenmawr Mountain and quarry is in the background and Llandudno’s Great Orme is in the distant background. The Wales Coast path was developed in partnership with the Welsh Government, the Countryside Council for Wales, sixteen local authorities and two National Parks. Opened in May 2012, the 870 mile path (1,400 km) runs from the market town of Chepstow to the Cheshire border on the River Dee.
