Acetanilide crystals, polarised light micrograph. Acetanilide is an odourless solid chemical. It has analgesic (painkilling) and antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties, but is no longer used as a drug due to its toxicity. It is used in a number of industrial processes, including the synthesis of rubber, and as a precursor during the production of a number of drugs.
