Illuminated human outline as viewed from Mars. Idea for communicating with inhabitants of Mars by illuminating a large area (several square miles) of snow the shape of a man with arc lamps. The article assumes that Mars is inhabited by intelligent beings because of the 'canals': and since we can see Diemos and Phobos through our telescopes the Martian astronomers would see the giant figure as shown.
