The FV^rists' Review 113 The Disastrous Storms and Cyclones of this Spring, which caused such heavy damage to the trade in almost all parts of the country, should no doubt teach greenhouse builders some lessons. While seemingly nothing can resist a cyclone when it strikes with full force, some styles of construction stood the heavy storms while others under the same con- ditions have collapsed. We recommend in our construction to use purlin posts set solid in concrete to withstand the pressure, and the purlins safely tied down to prevent the suction of the storm—and no loss has been reported to us on any of these houses with exception of one case where the storm picked up part of a shed from a distance and threw it on the houses, demolishing that part which was struck. ' We further recommend the Dietsch short-roof construction, which has no purlin poets, but the corrugated-like surface which these houses present to the storm seems to offset the force of pressure and suction and no loss has been reported to us whatever. At the same time please note that our construction, which has stood the test so well, is inex- pensive. A. DIETSCH CO.
