It was a banner year inmost respects. Full membership reached thehighest figure in our history, and the propor-tion voting in the autumn director electionsshowed this to be an active, participatinginterest on the part of members in their na-tional association. QST continued to grow insize and scope, perhaps soon to present anotherproblem of enlarging the yearly binders sothat twelve issues can be fitted into them! At yearend a new publication, Single Side-band for the Radio Amateur, appeared in orderto cater to and encourage amateur use of thisgrowing field. Considerable publicity on theattractiveness of amateur radio as a hobbyappeared in various magazines, resulting inthousands of inquiries to Headquarters on howto get into the hobby, and also resulting ina heavy demand this year for beginnerpublications.
