Empty moorings and jetties on the waterfront at Esna, just after sunrise on the Nile, Upper Egypt

In better times this waterfront mooring would be full of cruise ships moored up to 4 abreast. In December 2014 tourism had been so badly affected by the Arab Spring and fears of attacks against tourists that only a handful of ships were operating. Here at Esna there were only two cruise ships, and the town and temple were almost deserted.
