Type: Antique map with original outline colour. The map includes Bloomsbury, parts of the West End, The City, Holborn, Clerkenwell, Hoxton, Finsbury, Broadgate, Euston, King's Cross, Angel and Bankside. Charing Cross Railway station is shown under construction. The area is shown prior to the late 19th century and early 20th century improvements to the street layout of the area. The area is shown before the construction of Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue (following the 1877 Act of Parliament) and the extension of Southampton Row with the construction of Kingsway and Aldwych where the old street pattern, incuding Wych Street, is shown. The Foundling Hospital is shown. All the notable public and other buildings including churches, city trade guilds, banks and other finance houses are shown. The route of the Metropolitan Railway, which was due to open the subsequent year (1863) is shown on the map, with its original terminus at Farringdon Street. The Blackfriars Railways bridge and line is shown under construction.
