Urinary tract. Coloured Intra-Venous Urogram (IVU) X-ray image of the abdominal region of a person showing a normal urinary tract. The calyces & pelvis of each kidney is seen (yellow, top right and top left) with the two ureters leading down to the bladder (green and red, bottom centre). In the background the blue bones of the lower spine & pelvic girdle are seen. The urinary tract produces and disposes of urine. Urine is produced in the kidney & channeled down to the bladder from where it is expelled via the urethra. IVU images are produced by injecting the patient with an iodine- based radio-opaque contrast medium prior to X-ray.
