It very frequently happens that it is not feasible to locatethe warehouse of the cotton mill so that a platform can con-veniently be carried from it to the picker room. The questionof transferring the cotton from one to the other, therefore,has been the subject of considerable thought. The bestpractice to-day favors an arrangement devised by the KitsonMachine Company, to accomplish this by carrying the cottonfrom the warehouse to the picker room through a galvanizediron pipe, either placed under ground in a box and coveredup, or overhead, according to choice. When intended to be used in this manner, the warehouseis built with a small opening room ten to twenty feet square,cut-off from the rest of the warehouse by a fire wall. In thissmall warehouse opening room is placed a cone hopper intowhich the loose cotton
