The Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) is a route traveled by pilgrims from all over Spain and across Europe to get to the city of Santiago de Compostela, where the supposed relics are venerated the Apostle James. Throughout the Middle Ages it was very busy, then was forgotten and now has returned to take a big boom. The Camino de Santiago French and French routes of the Camino were declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1993 and 1998 respectively; European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe and has received the honorary title of Europe's High Street.
