Also known as Gauri Kund, the lake is closely linked with the Hindu 'Shiva Purana' mythology, Goddess Parvati and the resurrection of Lord Ganesha. Mount Kailash is a 6,638m high peak which forms part of the Transhimalaya in the Ngari Prefecture, It is considered to be sacred and a major pilgrimage site in 4 religions: Hinduism, Bon, Buddhism, and Jainism. In Hinduism, it is traditionally recognized as the abode of Shiva, while it is believed to Mount Meru in Buddhist texts.
